Standard Consolidated Co. Stamp Mill, Bodie Historical Park

Located 13 miles east of Highway 395 and seven miles south of Bridgeport, CA. in Mono County, Bodie is a former bustling town that in the 1880s was home to over 10,000 people and 2000 buildings.  This gold rush community had a Wells Fargo bank, 65 saloons, a red light district, numerous taverns, a schoolhouse, hotels, churches, numerous stores, a volunteer fire department, three breweries, and a thriving gold mine.  In 1877 the stamping mill began crushing ore from the mine as a prelude to extracting gold.  Throughout its existence, approximately $34 million in gold was processed before the mine closed permanently in 1913. In 1962, after years of neglect, Bodie became a State Historic Park and in 1966.  It was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 200,000 visitors visit Bodie annually and is currently operated by the State of California and the Bodie Foundation.
