Description: Remarkable 16th century Italian hand carved wood sculpture of female dressed in draped garments with folds around the mid section. Traces of color pigment are present. The figure is perched on a rock atop a carved capital. This exquisite sculpture is from the collection of Linda Johnson Rice, former scion of the Chicago based Ebony Magazine Publishing Company. The sculpture is wall mounted at the capital base, so that the figure appears to be floating in midair.
